Behind the Lens and the Edit

SafariMemories is run by Ariadne Van Zandbergen, a travel and wildlife photographer with more than 30 years experience. She understands the specific challenges of African wildlife and landscape images: harsh midday light, dust haze, and the need to preserve authentic skin, fur, and foliage texture without over-processing.

She is not a general photo editor, but a specialist who understands animal anatomy, golden-hour color behavior, and the difference between a punchy edit and an honest one. Every edit is done personally, frame by frame — no batch filters, no outsourcing.

An Editing Philosophy Built for Safari Light

Every safari image carries a story of light, distance, and a fleeting moment — the goal of editing is to protect that story, not override it.

Natural color first — correcting white balance and exposure to match what the eye actually saw in the field, never pushing saturation past realism.

Texture over gloss — preserving the fine detail in fur, feathers, and dust rather than smoothing images into a flat, synthetic look.

One frame, full attention — each image is edited individually by hand, respecting the specific light and moment it was captured in, with no mass-applied presets.
